SMALL TOWN.
BIG AMBITION.

I'm Terrence Ruffin, but you probably know me as Ruff Diesel. I grew up in Beatrice, Alabama, long before the Olympia stage or an Arnold Classic title. With just 204 residents recorded in the 2020 census, Beatrice gives you a sense of the small-town roots my story began with.

Today, I'm an Air Force veteran, a professional Classic Physique athlete, and an entrepreneur. To understand how those chapters connect, you have to go back to the years when bodybuilding was still something I was learning alongside a very different career.

Finding a direction in the Air Force

I joined the U.S. Air Force in 2011 and initially pursued Tactical Air Control Party training. After washing out of TACP, I moved into electronic warfare, working in avionics. In 2012, the weight room became the beginning of another direction.

As I learned my military role, I also began studying bodybuilding: training, nutrition, and what it would take to compete. The progress wasn't just about lifting more. I had to learn how to eat consistently and put the different parts of preparation together.

In April 2013, I entered my first bodybuilding competition and finished last. Professional bodybuilding was still ahead of me, but I was now taking part in the sport instead of only thinking about it.

Becoming a professional

In November 2014, at 21, I earned my IFBB pro card at the NPC Nationals in Miami, becoming the youngest professional bodybuilder at the time. I was still serving in the Air Force.

Turning professional raised a new question: where did my physique belong? Before Classic Physique, competing successfully meant considering divisions that demanded considerably more muscle. Military responsibilities and physical fitness standards were still part of my daily life.

The introduction of Classic Physique gave me a division built around proportion, presentation, and a height-based weight limit. In 2016, I began competing in the division and reached the Olympia stage.

The art of Classic

Posing became a defining part of how I presented my physique. I was interested in the tradition of bodybuilding as an art: the way a pose could reveal shape, and the way a routine could turn individual movements into a performance.

That interest has stayed central to Ruff Diesel. Building the physique and learning to present it are both part of the work.

From contender to Arnold champion

My competitive career continued to develop. I finished second at the Classic Physique Olympia in 2020 and again in 2021.

In 2021, I won the Arnold Classic Physique title. I returned in 2022 and won it again, becoming a two-time champion.

Those results are important milestones in my story. They sit alongside the years of service, preparation, and learning that came before them.

A career that spans Classic Physique

I have the most professional wins in Classic Physique and am the division's longest-active professional. I've competed in Classic since its first season in 2016.

I'm one of only three athletes to have beaten Chris Bumstead in competition, and the only athlete to have defeated every Classic Physique Olympia champion.

Alongside my two Arnold Classic titles, those distinctions reflect a career that has spanned the division's development and multiple generations of champions.

Life Offstage

Away from the competition stage, my life also includes Wolf Gym, Bolt Fitness Supply, and the Built By Ruff app. After years of building my own physique, these projects give me different ways to stay involved in the everyday work of training.

Wolf Gym keeps me connected to the daily work behind a physique. A competition lasts a weekend, but the preparation takes years. The gym is where those sessions add up, and where people at every level work toward their own goals.

My involvement with Bolt Fitness Supply connects my experience as an athlete to gym equipment. I've spent years learning how different machines and movements fit into my training. That experience shapes how I think about the equipment people use to build strength and develop their physiques.

The Built By Ruff app is another way to share what I've learned through training and competition with people working toward their own goals.

These parts of my life sit alongside competing. The stage remains an important part of my story, but so do the spaces, equipment, and ideas that support the work long before anyone steps into the spotlight.
